Not All Real Estate Agents Are the Same

We don’t live under a rock!  We totally agree that so many people became real estate agents over the past several years, feeling like it is a get rich quick scheme.  The market is saturated.  Most likely they’re finding out now that it takes hard work, consistency, knowledge and skill to be successful in this industry.  While many agents are amazing at what they do, not all agents have the same skill set.  We are here to discuss some things that we see everyday that make us CRINGE!

Top 5 Cringy Behaviors We See in Real Estate Agents

  1. Pushiness & Pressure

Did you make the mistake of posting on a spouse’s page for realtor recs and have your inbox FLOODED with unsolicited messages?  Your agent should not make you feel like a piece of meat.  Agents who use overwhelm as a strategy to gain clients may not have your best interest in mind.  You should never feel pressured to rent, buy, make a decision immediately, or use a particular agent or lender.  If this is the case, you have every right to re-evaluate your agent choice.  We support the pivot!

  2. Over use of Social Media & Over the Top Self Promotion

We’ve said it before and we will say it again…don’t choose the agent who has single handedly sold 100 homes in a year!  You will be just a number.  While we love social media, please stop using it as a bragging tool.  There are ways to share success tastefully, and accurately.  Agents who are over the top – posting about every single home they close and how much money they appear to be making…well, they make us cringe!

  3. Dishonesty

Yup, we see this ALL the time!  Unfortunately, we’ve had several instances where the other agent was downright being untruthful with their client (and the client did not know).  Agents often lack local knowledge, and instead of finding the correct answer they just make something up.  It’s your job as a homebuyer to not 100% rely on what your agent says, but to make informed decisions after research.  If an answer seems shady or strange, double-check with your agent’s broker for more clarity!  Dishonesty in real estate is shameful and wrong…and of course super cringy.  AVOID!!

  4. Unprofessional Behavior

Well here we are…we can’t believe what some agents post on social media or how they carry themselves!  Yes agents have lives of their own and don’t need to be wearing business professional clothing while traipsing through the mud on a new construction site – but they should be held to professional standards.

  5. Inauthenticity

This one in our opinion is most popular near military installations.  The inauthentic agent is strictly focused on commission as a means for success.  At first they appear to be very invested, but as time goes by you start questioning their authenticity.  We see this with military families because of frequent PCSing.  Inauthentic agents arent genuine and you are viewed as a means to referrals.  If you feel like you’re being used, then you probably are.  The cringe factor is a 10 out of 10 for this one.
