While the most military bases are located in California, Florida, and Virginia, there are seven in Colorado. Fort Carson is the largest in the state! Fort Carson houses a number of units in addition to Army and Navy Reserves and the Colorado National Guard. Fort Carson: The Best of Both Worlds

Whether you prefer living on or off-post, Fort Carson is a great mix of both. You have access to the typical base amenities, but you’re less than ten miles away from Colorado Springs. Many bases are nestled in more remote areas, but you’ll find yourself being able to enjoy the perks of post and town life.

Families

There are 16 neighborhoods about Fort Carson. If you are moving here with children, there are four elementary schools on post and one middle school.

  • Abrams Elementary (Apache Village, Comanche Village, Pawnee Village, Shoshoni Village, and Sioux Village)
  • Mountainside Elementary (Arapahoe Village, Cherokee Village, and Choctaw Village)
  • Patriot Elementary (Cheyenne Village, Dakota Ridge Village, Kiowa Village, and some areas of Ute Hill Village)
  • Weikel Elementary (Blackfoot Hill, Chippewa Village, Iroquois Villages, Navajo Village, and some areas of Ute Hill Village)
  • Carson Middle School

The above schools are all part of the Fountain-Fort Carson School District 8. The local high school, Fountain-Fort Carson High School is located in nearby Fountain, CO off post. Weikel Elementary hosts preschool for children living on Fort Carson. There are six childcare centers along with school aged care and youth centers. Evans Army Community Hospital is located on post for active duty and family members.

Fun on “The Mountain Post”

With it’s great location for snowy fun and lovely warm weather months, Fort Carson constantly ranks as one of the best army posts. For winter sports fun check out Leisure Travel Services (ITR) offers for discounted lift tickets. MWR also has helmet, ski, and board rentals – and so much more! In the summer there’s mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, and paddling equipment available. Fort Carson is great for bringing out your adventurous side.

With Colorado Springs at your back door, you have access to local events, restaurants, and more! If you want to buy a house off post, Colorado Springs has great school and communities. The Colorado Springs airport is less than 30 minutes from Fort Carson. Denver is about an hour and a half away.
